Katie’s Very Own Bag (finally)

I love my bag, I do. I know that it is not very modest of me to say, but I do think that this bag is exceptional. Yup.

The bag is made of new fabric, three vintage men’s neckties, re-claimed black velvet, and a bit of ribbon for the detail work. There is cell phone pocket on the front for easy access, and two (more secure) pockets on the inside for the wallet and keys (my personal preferences).

One of the things that I like so much about this bag is that it is a perfect example of tweaking an item into a more usable piece. Take a look at the pictures and pay special attention to the pleated grey tie. This vintage tie is an amazing piece of apparel, but it is so unwearable. By rethinking concepts, such as usage and structure, this great piece can now be enjoyed and appreciated on a daily basis both visually and functionally.

Carl’s Messenger Bag

This is a custom bag designed to meet the personal needs of a real life messenger. There are four small pockets on the front to securely hold items which are frequently used that require easy access, such as a cell phone and ipod. The inside is divided into three sections to keep a laptop, important papers and documents, and personal items orderly and in place. There is a side pouch for a water bottle and velcro umbrella straps on the front.

Carl’s messenger bag is made out of duck cloth and burlap, and the strap is Army surplus.

Summer Envy was special ordered to replicate the over all look of Amber’s Trophy Bag, yet customized to represent individual personality and preferences.

The sheer brown polka-dot material came from a vintage shower curtain. The shoulder straps are reclaimed men’s ties from the 1970’s.

My friend Amber recently lost a substantial amount of weight. While she was thrilled to do so, she was sad to have to give up her now-oversized favorite clothes. So, she handed a few items over to me and I “tweaked” them into a handbag. She loves the unique look and style of the bag, and also that it is a trophy of her newly reached goal.

The pocket is off of a pair of her shorts; the black, flowered, and blue sheer fabrics all come from a few of her favored tops. The handles are re-claimed men’s neck-ties.
